           Inspector General (IG) Narayan Dutta Poudyal assumed office as the Chief of the Armed Police Force, Nepal (APF, Nepal) on May 2, 2026, becoming the 13th head of the organization. Born to his late father Resmilal Poudyal and late mother Nandakali Poudyal on November 24, 1973, in Surkhet District, he holds a Master’s degree in Political Science from Tribhuvan University. IG Poudyal began his policing career on March 31, 1998, as an Inspector in the Nepal Police after graduating from the National Police Academy 111th batch. In 2001, he was transferred to APF, Nepal, where he was promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Armed Police. During the career, he gradually ascended through the ranks, earning recognition as a disciplined, competent and professional officer.                                    

          Throughout his career, IG Poudyal has completed a wide range of National and International training programs, including specialized courses in arms and tactics, physical endurance, high-level management, counter-terrorism strategy and advanced security cooperation. He has also actively participated in international forums such as the International Association of chiefs of Police and the International Forum on big data policing cooperation.                

               IG Poudyal has held several key command and leadership positions within the APF, Nepal including Battalion Commander of the Baglamukhi Special Task Force Battalion and Nilbarahi Battalion in Kathmandu, Commandant of the APF United Nations Peacekeeping Training College in Kakani, Brigade Commander of No. 4 Muktinath Brigade in Pokhara and No. 5 Bindabasini Brigade in Rupandehi, as well as senior leadership roles in the Human resources, Border security and Operation departments.                                        

               IG Poudyal has also served under the flag of United Nations in Kosovo and Liberia. In recognition of his distinguished service, he has been awarded several prestigious honors, including the Suprabal Jana Sewa Shree, Prabal Jana Sewa Shree, Gorkha Dakshin Bahu, Province Service Medal, United Nations Peacekeeping Medal and Foreign Service Medal. He has also undertaken official visits to countries such as the United States of America, Italy, Denmark, Sri Lanka, China and India.                                                

         IG Poudyal is widely recognized for his foresighted vision in strengthening the institutional mandate of the APF, Nepal by enhancing organizational capacity, operational effectiveness and professionalism across the force. He places strong emphasis on promoting peace and security through a firm commitment to human rights, public trust and citizen safety. His leadership philosophy is grounded in respect, empathy and dedication to duty. He believes that “discipline and dedication earn genuine respect,” and consistently emphasizes that service must be guided by discipline, devotion and the highest standards of integrity. Guided by this philosophy, he remains strongly committed in achieving organizational excellence of APF, Nepal by promoting peaceful internal security, strengthening border governance and contributing to the development of a resilient society capable of effectively responding to disasters.                    

               IG Poudyal holds deep respect for the uniform, viewing it as a symbol of service, discipline, and national responsibility. He encourages all personnel to remain committed to their duty and prepared to make sacrifices in the service of the nation.                        

               On the personal front, he is married to Mrs. Sabitra Kumari Jaisee and resides in Samakhusi, Kathmandu, with their two sons.
